Hostel of the week

An 18th-century, long Welsh farmhouse – Llwyn-y-Celyn.

YHA’s new prospect in 1971 was an 18th-century, long Welsh farmhouse, empty for at least 12 years, set in 15 acres of ancient woodland near Libanus in the Brecon Beacons national park.

Libanus was named after the Lebanon that, despite the horrors of recent history, was once known more for its beauty, mountains and cedars. The hostel is in a lovely spot and the sketch above is from a stay in 2022, drawn while waiting for my walking mates to finish breakfast one morning.

John Martin’s profile has all you may want to know about the hostel and others in the area https://duncanmsimpsonwriting.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/y950001-llwyn-y-celyn-area-yhs-profile-2022-12-31_xcompressed-copy.pdf
