About Duncan

I am a writer, based in Gloucestershire, England. I focus on the history of youth hostels, and the people and ideas that drove them. Recently I have been looking at youth hostels and their pioneering role in the early development of low impact tourism

I trained as a journalist, and was a hostel manager, operations manager, and head of corporate affairs with the Youth Hostels Association (England and Wales) until 2013.
