Hostel of the Week

Windermere – an organ, seven fountains and electric light!

The curious circumstances of an early Lakeland hostel, which had been newly built as a guest-house for clergy by an eccentric.

When its predecessor, a wooden building, was destroyed by fire, he vowed this would not happen again.

He designed, built, and furnished the building, and died, and his house became the youth hostel above Windermere.

John Martin’s profile of the hostel tells the whole story. https://duncanmsimpsonwriting.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/y950001-windermere-yh-reduced-profile-rev2020-01-01.pdf
