YHA’s acquisition also consisted of the house, ‘the Laurels’ at the front of the property. The entire property, including a modest 1⁄4 acre of grounds, was purchased freehold for £3,250, with grant-aid from the Ministry of Education.

It was vested in the YHA Trust on 1st June 1946. The wheels were already in motion when YHA Oxford Region’s annual report for 1945 advised that the house would be opened first as a small establishment…
