90 years old, an Elizabethan manor house, built in 1611, though parts of the fabric date back to around 1350, and one of YHA’s most venerable.

The first youth hostel at Hartington was at Pool Hall, an attractive double-fronted stone-built farmhouse about a quarter of a mile north of the village green.
It opened at Easter 1932, too late for inclusion in that year’s national handbook, and lasted until 1935. It was briefly retained as an overflow for its replacement, Hartington Hall.
